Can Bad Gums Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

June 27, 2011 by Deepak Arora

A new study done in China claims that inflamed gums may be linked to erectile dysfunction. The study was done on rats, and it showed that periodintits(inflammation of gums) reduced the erectile function in the tested rats.
The study has caused some controversy as some researchers believe that dentist and other medical professionals should become aware of this study so that they can help improve the sexual function in men who suffer from periodontits; while some other medical professionals are not convinced that there is any relation between bad gums and erectile dysfunction.

What this study does is to indicate that inflammation may have a link with decreased erectile function.  I think a lot more research needs to be done to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the link between erectile dysfunction and bad gums.

Meanwhile it is always good to have your oral health in good condition anyways. So visit your dentist regularly and maintain good oral hygiene. As bad gums and bad breath will certainly not help your partner enjoy physical intimacy with you.
