Romantic Mixed Messaging: How to Recognize Rejection

couple not talking to each other

In this day and age, we’re all trained to be polite, making it hard to figure out disinterest.

But, post-date silence is not golden, because this is a form of passive rejection, even though it leaves room for interpretation.

It’s harder to say “no thanks” to someone we’re not interested in. Also, honest rejection can cause rifts in a friendship or social group.

But, the distance between the two parties can also be used to help recognizing disinterest: the closer two people are, the less likely they are to go dark.

Key Takeaways:

  • If you have a great first date but the other person doesn’t call you right away, do not assume it’s an automatic rejection.
  • Sometimes people do not want to appear impolite so they do not outright reject someone.
  • Learn to tell the difference when judging people’s behaviour as either disinterested or desire.

“When a partner with whom you have been actively talking and texting drops off the grid, it speaks volumes—as a passive method of rejection.”
